The scouts went to Lake Arrowhead this weekend. They worked on lashing and wilderness survival. Upon arriving at camp the boys quickly got to work lounging about. After some coaxing they got to work on building shelters to sleep in that evening. Once that was accomplished they were given the task of building a rope bridge from posts and lashings which could support their weight and which they could walk across. After some trial and error they made it successfully. We threw the frisbee around with some of our neighbors as well. Later that night the leaders turned the bridge into a hammock, which Bro. Worley promptly broke, but was easily repaired and improved. A nice size fire was built to cook foil dinners and ant larvae, which was Bro. Atkinson's idea. The foil dinners turned out well, we may have had some rare beef patties, but hey the scouts are toughening up and the bathrooms were close by. As night time fell, tales of McDonald's and other adventures were told and the boys were sent to their shelters.
After a long night's rest, or a short night depending on where you were sleeping we awoke to a breakfast of pancakes or crepes, depending on who's you got, and sausage, milk or juice. The boys tore down the bridge, we played some more frisbee and decided to go on a hike. Its was a couple miles of up and downs, we hiked for a few hours, some of the boys learned some valuable lessons in water and footwear. We made it to deep creek and the boys went swimming in the frigged water. The hike back was a little more then was expected, but still they all made it back alive for lunch.
